Go Fishing - Flowing Springs Road, 5 miles north of Payson on Highway 87, turn right. Approximately ¾ mile to the Verde River crossing for fishing and swimming. Great fun for the kids. Note: Undeveloped camping.
Do A Picnic - East Verde Estates, 6 miles north of Payson on Highway 87, turn left on East Verde Estates Rd, parking on right. Fishing and water fun in the East Verde River. Water is shallow and great fun for the kids.

Shoofly Indian Ruins, 2.3 miles north of Payson on Highway 87, turn right on Houston Mesa Rd. approximately 3 miles to ruins. Marked trail through the ruins with great veiws of the rim.
A Must See To Believe - Tonto Natural Bridge State Park, 10 miles north of Payson on Highway 87, turn left 3 miles down into canyon. Largest travertine bridge in North America with viewpoints and trails down to the creek. Picnic tables, hiking, gift shop. Fee for entry is $3.00 per person. Additional fee for larger groups.
Go Hiking - Pine Trailhead, 14 miles north of Payson on Highway 87, on right. The west end of the 51-mile-long Highline National Recreational Trail with trails ascending to the Mogollon Rim. The historic trail was established to link early homesteads and ranches in the late 1800s.

Go On A Hike - Box Canyon Trailhead, 20.4 miles east of Payson to the Mogollon Rim on Highway 260, on right. The hiking trail goes to the edge of Box Canyon.
Have Fun Camping & Fishing - Christopher Creek Campground, 21 miles east of Payson to the Mogollon Rim on Highway 260, on the right. Fishing and wading in Christopher Creek which runs through the middle of the campground. Note: Full service campground.

See The View From The Rim - Rim Visitor Center, 30 miles east of Payson to the Mogollon Rim on Highway 260, on right (well worth the trip). Located on the Mogollon Rim (Over 7,000 feet in elevation) where you can obtain information on the many vista points (awesome views of the Tonto National Forest below), the lakes, fishing, picnicking, camping, boating, hiking and wildlife.
Go Site Seeing, Boating & Fishing - Woods Canyon Lake, 30 miles east of Payson to the Mogollon Rim on Highway 260, turn left on the Rim Road. 5 miles to the lake. A scenic lake with developed campgrounds, fishing, picnic area, boat rentals, hiking trails and a store.
Lots Of Fishing Fun Here - Willow Springs Lake, 31 miles east of Payson to the Mogollon Rim on Highway 260, turn left one mile. Another scenic lake with a developed campground, fishing and boating.
